Panelists: Catherine Liu Chris Cutrone Gregory Lucero  Panel Description: The long anticipated outcome of the 2016 US Presidential Election—the coronation of Hillary Clinton—was dramatically derailed by the twin “populist” insurgencies of Bernie Sanders and Donald Trump. Many on the Left hoped the Sanders campaign would either transform the Democratic Party, replacing the neoliberalism of the Clintons with a commitment to social democracy, or form a new left-wing party. Democratic Confederalism , also known as  Democratic Federalism  or  Apoism ,  is a  libertarian socialist   political system  developed by  Abdullah Öcalan  based on the ideas of  Murray Bookchin . He describes it as "open towards other political groups and factions" and as "flexible,  multi-cultural , anti-monopolistic, and  consensus-oriented ."   The ideology is closely associated with the polity of  Rojava , where it is the governing political system.

The Next Revolution is a brief introduction to Communalist theory and politics by Murray Bookchin , the most vital thinker-activist of its kind. It assembles nine essays, written during the last decade of Bookchin’s life, which offer, among many things, lucid and penetrating criticisms of Marxism, anarchism, capitalism, hierarchy and domination, in order to navigate a rational and dialectical path through their limitations for the practice of an ecological politics of libertarian municipalism...
